Harsco Metals & Minerals

Harsco's environmental solution for steel slag in Slovenia has been recognized by Alpa Adria Green, a leading local environmental organization. Harsco was voted Best Environmental and most People-Friendly Company for 2013.
Harsco's first-ever slag processing plant in Slovenia opened in 2013. The customer is Acroni Steel - a producer of flat rolled stainless, electrical, structural and special steel which produced 316,000 tonnes of steel in 2012. Acroni Steel is Russian-owned and part of the Slovenian Steel Group (SIJ).

Harsco transferred its global experience in carbon and stainless slag processing and metal recovery to design a solution for Acroni. After metal recovery, Acroni's slag is recycled by Harsco into engineered fill, roadbase and concrete applications.
Bart Vandelinden, Managing Director of Harsco Minerals Europe, commented. "We offer a Green solution to the customer by recycling 100% of the slag. Receiving this award is a great achievement for the local team led by Andrej Begelj, the site manager. It is also reflection of their total engagement with the local community. Alpa Adria Green is a well known and respected environmental organization and we are delighted to get this award."
