Custom-designed, lime-based Desulfurizers for efficient steel refining in the ladle are engineered to provide cost effective desulfurization during and after furnace tapping. This is achieved by the immediate production of a molten slag with an increased desulfurization potential. The rapid fluidization of the entire ladle slag increases the absorption of sulfur and non-metallic inclusions throughout each stage of ladle refining. These custom-designed products are available with specified levels of metallic aluminum or silicon to improve the efficiency of the desulfurizing process. This allows the specified sulfur levels to be reached within the time required. Premelted MgO is also provided to generate rapid and ongoing refractory protection.
Desulfurizers are sized in Granular (-3/8”), Coarse (+3/8 x 2”) and Briquettes (2” x 1½” x ¾”). The Granular material is typically supplied in 50 pound bags, 2,400 pounds per pallet. Custom bag sizes are also available. Our Coarse Desulfurizers are supplied in supersacks; specific weights are designed for each application. Briquetted desulfurizers are supplied in bulk, bins and supersacks. All Packaged Desulfurizers are supplied on sturdy pallets, shrink wrapped to protect from the environment.
Providing hands on technical support with complete ladle practice analysis utilizing our in-house metallurgical engineering staff, we have experienced steel industry sales personnel who work in conjunction with the highest professional manufacturer’s representatives. We also offer custom product design based on existing parameters such as furnace slag chemistry, slag carryover, alloys used and end point slag chemistry targets. We utilize our own in-house designed Mass Balance computer model. We offer practice recommendations and improvements for steel ladle desulfurization. The process begins with a Slag Analysis of a customer’s current slag, proceeding to on site observations of practices and procedures, then during trials we take additional samples to further evaluate the current slag practice, finally making recommendations to products and practices.
Analytical Capabilities & Quality
We test all incoming raw materials, especially those for metallic aluminum determination via hydrogen evolution. We also have the capability to test: Fluorine analysis via ion probe or XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence), full oxide analysis via XRF spectrometer, sulfur and carbon determination via LECO analysis, moisture and L.O.I. determination via high temperature furnace tests, tumble, crush, drop tests for physical strength of briquetted products, bulk density, specific gravity, sizing determinations and mineralogical and metal determinations via XRD (X-Ray Diffraction). Our facilities are ISO 9001; 2008 certified.
We have two operating facilities; East Chicago, IN and Warren, OH. Both facilities are between 100,000 and 120,000 square feet of operating space. Each facility contains: bulk silo storage of raw materials, rotary dryer with attached screening, bulk blending and packaging, two briquetting lines with attached screening, warehouse space for finished products and lab facilities for material testing.
